Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

286 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the conclusions, if any, reached by his Department in its examination of the case made by the Association of Art Teachers of Ireland regarding the qualification system for art teaching in the 1970s; the steps, if any, he will take regarding each participant adversely affected by the system; and the situation in relation to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who attended the College of Art in Limerick from 1971 to 1975. [12163/99]

My Department has forwarded a questionnaire to vocational education committees requesting them to submit details of the qualifications and the status of art teachers employed by them who are not qualified. The details will be examined by my Department to determine if it is possible to address the shortfalls in their qualifications.

Officials of my Department will contact the Deputy directly regarding the case referred to.
