263 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposed statutory instruments being prepared in, or under the auspices of, his Department; the proposed effect of each; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13267/99]

The following statutory instruments are being prepared in my Department:

Rules and Programme for Secondary Schools 1999-2000. This is a statutory instrument which is prepared in my Department annually. It outlines the conditions for recognition of secondary schools, details of the school curriculum and courses of instruction, the requirements for admission to the certificate examinations and the rules concerning conduct of candidates during examinations. The rules come into operation on 1 August each year.
The consolidated amended secondary teachers superannuation scheme – working title; the consolidated amended national teachers superannuation scheme – working title; the consolidated amended vocational teachers superannuation scheme – working title. These statutory instruments will update the law relating to the superannuation schemes of teachers in first-level and second level schools.
The contributory pension scheme for the spouses and children of national teachers and secondary teachers – working title. This statutory instrument will establish the presentad hoc schemes on a statutory basis.
The contributory pension amended scheme for the spouses and children of vocational teachers – working title. This statutory instrument will update the law in regard to this scheme.
Theex gratia pension scheme for the widows and orphans of national teachers and secondary teachers – working title. This statutory instrument will establish the present ad hoc schemes on a statutory basis.
