Vol. 505 No. 1

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

24 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the principal recommendations contained in the report on a public private partnership approach to the Dublin light rail project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12988/99]

I am very supportive of the concept of public private partnerships. I welcome the timely publication of this report which recommends the adoption of a PPP approach for the light railway project. This is a most valuable report which illustrates how the State and the private sector could work in partnership to bring about a much needed improvement to the public transport system. The recommendations in the report are being studied by my Department at present and I am consulting interested parties. I am anxious that all interested parties will be given an opportunity to study the report and respond to its findings. When that consultation has been completed, I will make proposals to the Government for the continuing development of the project.
