Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Banking Sector Regulations.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

133 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the problem which arose with joint shareholder accounts in previous re-arrangements of the status of financial institutions; and if this issue has been resolved for any change in status of the TSB. [14478/99]

As I stated previously, I am prepared, subject to confirmation that there are no problems in relation to domestic or EU legal requirements, to reserve a specific number of shares at the offer price for long standing customers of ACC-TSB when floated on the stock exchange.

In that context, the question of how joint account holders will be treated in relation to an allotment of shares at the offer price is one my advisers will be examining and, in due course, after consultation with the banks, I will be announcing the terms and conditions on which customers may apply for shares.

As the Deputy will be aware, I have recently appointed IBI Corporate Finance Limited and Davy Stockbrokers in association with Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette as my financial advisers and Arthur Cox as my legal advisers for the merger-flotation process.
