Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

198 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if there is sufficient water available at the Dromin reservoir, Listowel, County Kerry, following the recent conservation initiative to enable stage IV of north east Kerry water scheme to proceed to the next stage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14458/99]

Contract documents for stage IV of the north-east Kerry water supply scheme were submitted to my Department in 1991 but have not been approved. As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department Circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998, irrespective of the levels of water supply at the Dromin reservoir. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for water and wastewater infrastructure in its area and to submit a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment before the end of June 1999. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan, 2000-2006.
