Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

John Perry

Ceist:

248 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the situation that a first year spina bifida student (details supplied) in County Sligo is encountering with her child care assistant; if she will be granted assistance for 28 hours in view of the circumstance involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14283/99]

My Department, having considered a report and recommendation from the psychological service, approved the allocation of child care assistance hours to the school concerned for the current school year to cater for the needs of the pupil in question.

The psychological service has been asked to review the position for next year and as soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will communicate with the school authorities in the matter.

I will advise the Deputy of developments.
