Vol. 505 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

280 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if a group of national schools (details supplied) in County Wexford will be approved for an additional remedial teacher and a resource teacher; and, if so, when approval will issue. [14527/99]

My priority at present is to ensure that all schools which are currently without a remedial teaching service will be given access to the service with effect from September 1999. Arrangements to put this extension of service in place are currently being made in my Department. I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the schools to which he refers will be fully considered in the event that additional resources become available to improve existing remedial services.

My Department has no record of an application for a resource teaching post from the school in question. The school authorities may apply for such support through their school inspector. The procedures to be followed in relation to such applications are set out in my Department's circular 8/99 which recently issued to all schools.
