336 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if Ireland has proposed a definitive list of special areas of conservation to the EU Commission; if she will clarify that the Government's failure to do so is being dealt with by the European Court of Justice; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 8 of 3 June 1999.

I can confirm that the European Court has instigated legal proceedings against Ireland but I am confident that the actions which I outlined in that reply will lead to a satisfactory outcome to the matter.
