352 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the recommendations of the interdepartmental committee on immi gration asylum and related issues; its consideration of abuses of citizen law; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14994/99]
I assume the Deputy is referring to the recommendations made by the Interdepartmental Committee on lmmigration, Asylum and Related Issues to Government in February 1998. These recommendations were set out by me in response to Parliamentary Question No. 98 on 7 May 1998. The Government accepted these recommendations and work is proceeding on their implementation.
In so far as the recommendation relating to abuses of Irish citizenship law is concerned, this matter is currently being considered by my Department in the context of a review of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts.
