389 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the permanency of class assistants in mainstream schools catering for pupils with disabilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14859/99]
My Department sanctions the appointment of special needs assistants in mainstream schools where such support is required by children with disabilities attending the schools.
These posts are sanctioned on a permanent basis for the duration of the attendance of the special needs children at the schools.
