Vol. 507 No. 1

Written Answers. - MOT Tests.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

85 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the charges, if any, which will apply for compulsory MOT testing; when this will commence; the reason there will be a possible charge of £42 compared to a £17 charge in Northern Ireland; the reason it appears there will be a further fee to verify repairs have taken place whereas there is no charge in the North; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16246/99]

Car testing will commence on 4 January 2000. The fee for a test will be £35.00 and for a retest £19.80, both inclusive of VAT. Retests not involving the use of test equipment in a test lane will be free of charge. The test and retest fees are those arising from the most economically advantageous tender received following an international competitive tendering process.
