96 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will have examinations made into the overpayment to a person (details supplied); and if the balance of overpayment will be written off in view of the circumstances. [16255/99]
The records of my Department show that the person concerned incurred overpayments of disability and unem ployment payments amounting to £2,644.07 between 1984 and 1997. A total of £988.94 has been recovered by weekly deductions from benefit-assistance due to the person.
Following a review of the case it has been decided, to cancel part of the outstanding amount in view of the persons circumstances at the time when that part of the overpayment was incurred, and to suspend the recovery of the outstanding balance until the person is again in a position to resume repayment.
