92 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the percentage of Defence Forces personnel which have availed of health and safety courses in 1998 and to date in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16314/99]

In 1998 and 1999 the courses shown in the following table were undertaken by members of the Permanent Defence Force:

Personnel whose duties involve manual handling are given manual handling instruction on an annual basis.
The military authorities also advise that instruction in care of hearing is included in all basic cadet, recruit and apprentice training. Additionally, all personnel receive instruction on care of hearing prior to annual range practices.
