Vol. 507 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

118 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the current use of the Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16958/99]

The barracks in question was vacated in September 1998. Agreement in general has been reached between my Department and Naas Urban District Council on the transfer of part of the property to the council for local purposes. The balance of the property has been rezoned for housing in line with the development plan for Naas UDC which was adopted on 29 May 1999, and will be put up for sale as soon as is practicable.

Arising from the decision to house the Kosovar refugees in Magee Barracks, Kildare, all costs for security and other services after 12 May 1999 are being met by the Eastern Health Board.
