Written Answers. - Family Planning Services.

Jan O'Sullivan

Ceist:

147 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children if a specific sum of money has been allocated for the provision of family planning services in each health board area; if so, the amount provided for 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16903/99]

From 1995 to 1998 additional funding totalling £1.93 million has been provided to the health boards for the development of family planning services. An additional £1 million has been provided in 1999 for the continued development of family planning and pregnancy counselling services, divided as follows: Eastern Health Board – £377,000; Midland Health Board – £85,000; Mid-Western Health Board – £82,000; North-Eastern Health Board – £77,000; North-Western Health Board – £51,000; South-Eastern Health Board – £100,000; Southern Health Board – £142,000; Western Health Board – £86,000.

Boards have been asked to concentrate this year's additional funding on measures aimed at reducing unwanted pregnancies in the 15-34 age-group.
