Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Assessments.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

113 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if his Department will examine the recent tax assessment issued to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to determine its accuracy in view of recent information submitted and the special circumstances in the case. [17060/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that an assessment issued to the taxpayer on 2 June 1999 in respect of the 1995-96 tax year. The assessment was based on the return of income submitted by the taxpayer's agent in April 1999. The tax due is £313.46 aid, as the return was submitted late, there is 10 per cent surcharge of £31.35 which brings the total amount due to £344.81.

I am further informed that the inspector of taxes is unaware of the special circumstances to which the Deputy refers. However, if the taxpayer contacts the inspector in relation to those circumstances, the case will be reviewed again.
