212 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of punishment beatings which came to the attention of the gardaí in the Dublin area since the beginning of 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17175/99]

It is not clear what particular types of assaults on the person the Deputy would intend to be covered by the use of the term "punishment beatings".
