Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Air Services.

John Gormley

Ceist:

216 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the advice given by the year 2000 advisory board task force in Britain that members of the public should not fly for five weeks starting 31 December 1999; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18292/99]

I am assured by the Irish Aviation Authority that they have been working with both Irish international airports and airlines to ensure that their safety critical systems are year 2000 compliant in good time before the end of the year.

From this work, the authority is satisfied that the airports and airlines have complied with internationally accepted safety procedures in respect of year 2000 issues.

I do not wish to comment on any advice which potential air travellers may receive in other countries.
