Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Liquid Petroleum Gas.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

227 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether she proposes to request CIE to utilise LPG in all public transport; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17699/99]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 60 of 29 June 1999, my Department has allocated a sum of £20,000 to part fund a trial involving the use by Dublin Bus of a vehicle fuelled by liquid petroleum gas – LPG.

Dublin Bus has now taken delivery of this vehicle, which is currently undergoing pre-servicing and re-fitting, and staff are receiving the necessary training. It is expected that the trial will commence in October 1999, for a duration of six months. A decision on the more general use of LPG in the Dublin Bus fleet must await the outcome of this trial.
