Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Overseas Missions.

John Perry

Ceist:

248 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, in place to grant an increase in the daily allowance of the personnel from the Defence Forces serving overseas in Lebanon in view of the fact there is a 25 per cent tax on all items; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17507/99]

David Stanton

Ceist:

263 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the overseas allowance for PDF personnel; if this allowance has been increased recently; if not, the plans, if any, he has to increase the allowance; when the allowance will be increased; if he will give details with regard to possible backdating of the allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18342/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 248 and 263 together.

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that agreement has been reached with the Permanent Defence Force representative associations, PDFORRA and RACO, on the introduction of two increased levels of overseas allowance, namely, an overseas peace support allowance with effect from 1 October 1994 and an overseas armed peace support allowance payable from a current date, with the exception of the UNIFIL, KFOR and SFOR missions in respect of which the effective date is 1 October 1997.
