Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Control of Farm Pollution Scheme.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

293 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of applicants for the control of farmyard pollution grants since it was reintroduced; the average amount of investment involved per applicant; the average grant which will be awarded in each case; the total amount required to ensure that all the applicants receive their approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17617/99]

A total of 3,017 applications have been received in my Department under the national scheme for the control of farm pollution to date. The average cost of investment proposed for those applications processed and approved so far is £20,000 while the average amount of grant aid approved per application is approximately £7,900. On this basis should all of the applications received be approved for grant aid, a total of up to £24 million will be required to fund the scheme. The financial resource appropriate to the scheme beyond the end of 1999 is under consideration.
