Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

361 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if his Department or agents will co-operate with other relevant bodies in the provision of a Garda station at Confey, Leixlip, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18043/99]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

363 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the current position regarding the provision of a Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare, with particular reference to the Confey site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18195/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 361 and 363 together.

As the Deputy is aware, the Office of Public Works has been co-operating with Kildare County Council to secure a site for the Garda station. The county council has now confirmed that it has received approval for the proposed joint development at Newtown House, Leixlip. Plans for the Garda station will be drawn up by my office in consultation with Kildare County Council.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

362 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the provision of a new Garda station (details supplied) in County Kilkenny where all preliminary works have now been carried out. [18087/99]

A sketch scheme for the new Garda station at Thomastown, County Kilkenny is currently being prepared by my offices' architects and will be completed in six to eight weeks' time. This will then be sent to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for approval, followed by planning consultation and the preparation of contract documentation. It is anticipated that building work should commence in the middle of next year.
