Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

386 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance the policy which will be adopted for the new decentralisation programme for Government Departments; whether Mullingar, which is a strategic central location, will be considered favourably in any future scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17924/99]

The current programme of decentralisation has yet to be completed and there is no decision to extend it to any further centres. I have, however, been considering the many issues relevant to decentralisation policy for some time past and it is my intention to discuss these issues with my colleagues in Government in due course.

I have noted the case made for the inclusion of Mullingar in any new or extended decentralisation programme.
