Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

409 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the continued serious flooding in south Galway; and the measures, if any, he will take to alleviate the flooding. [18270/99]

The areas identified in the flood study report for south Galway for further investigation have now been examined in detail. However, as there are no cost beneficial solutions to the problems in those areas, no works can be proposed. In accordance with the further recommendations of the report, the Office of Public Works has set up a post-study monitoring programme to examine the water levels at various locations in the area and this study will be done over a three year period. The local authority will be kept informed of any results from this process, as many of the long-terms solutions to the flooding problems may well be within their remit.
