521 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether a referendum would be an appropriate means to gauge public support for the options outlined in the recent Green Paper on Abortion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18273/99]

Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Cowen):

The Green Paper on Abortion has been referred to the All-Party Oireachtas Committee on the Constitution. The Government will await the outcome of the committee's deliberations before considering the matter further.
