Ceist:

547 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of litter wardens appointed by local authorities; the number of prosecutions initiated; the level of fines imposed; if he has satisfied himself that local authorities are sufficiently active in the matter of litter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Statistics in respect of numbers of litter wardens employed, prosecutions and convictions, and on-the-spot fines issued and paid are available in the Oireachtas Library. While I am anxious to see a further stepping up of litter enforcement activity by local authorities, I am satisfied that significant progress in this regard is being achieved.
