Under the provisions of Part V of the Local Government Act, 1991, and the associated regulations, it is open at any time to an individual local authority to adopt a proposal to alter its boundary for administrative purposes. Before submitting a formal application to the Minister, the authority must first invite submissions both from the general public and from the other authorities concerned. In certain cases there is provision for the establishment of an independent boundary committee to examine all aspects of the proposal and make recommendations, following which the Minister may make an order altering the boundary. However, I have received no formal application in relation to the borough of Drogheda under the 1991 provisions.
