Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Housing.

Ceist:

558 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the action, if any, he has taken to encourage local authorities to provide sites to voluntary and co-operative housing associations and the need to recognise the difficulty for these associations in attempting to identify sites for social housing, particularly in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17346/99]

The Government is committed to increasing voluntary housing output and local authorities have been reminded of the importance of actively securing the use of all housing options to meet the housing needs in their areas and of the need to facilitate a significant increase in dwelling provided by the voluntary sector.

I am currently reviewing the range of supports provided to the voluntary sector with a view to increasing the contribution the voluntary sector can make to meeting overall social housing needs.
