Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

John Perry

Ceist:

574 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the dreadful condition of Ballymote fire station, County Sligo; if his attention has further been drawn to the urgency for a new station in view of the tremendous growth and development in the area; the plans, if any, in place in this regard; when the work will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17481/99]

The provision of a fire service, including the provision of fire stations for its brigades, is the responsibility of the local fire authority concerned, in this case, Sligo County Council. My Department provides capital grants towards certain expenditure incurred by a fire authority in providing a fire service.

There is no proposal from Sligo County Council for funding for a new fire station at Ballymote before my Department at present.
