Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Euroflex Piping.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

603 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the certification of euroflex piping; if the judicial review is complete; if so, the outcome in this regard; his views on whether the fact that the certification of this material should be allowed here given that it is already covered by other EU countries; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17989/99]

The certification of an innovative building product as being in compliance with Part D of the Building Regulations, 1997, is a matter for the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI)/Irish Agreement Board (IAB) or an equivalent body in a member state of the European Economic Area (EEA).

I understand that the NSAI/IAB have not made a final decision on an application for an Irish agreement certificate of approval for "euroflex" piping. I am considering the implications of the certification by KIWA, the Dutch equivalent of the NSAI/IAB, of "euroflex" piping for hot water and central heating purposes on 31 May 1999. My decision in the matter will be conveyed to the Irish importer of "euroflex" piping as soon as possible.

I am advised that it would not be appropriate to comment on the judicial review proceedings which are still before the High Court for determination.
