Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

654 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive an invalidity pension; and the reason his Department is of the view that she is employed. [17579/99]

To qualify for invalidity pension, an applicant must, among other things, be permanently incapable of work.

The person concerned applied for an invalidity pension on 15 June 1999.
She is not regarded as being permanently incapable of work by virtue of the fact that she is working on her own farm holding. Accordingly, she was refused invalidity pension. She was notified of this decision, the reasons for it and of her right of appeal on 25 August 1999.

Ceist:

655 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will have her appeal heard. [18512/99]

The person concerned appealed against a decision to disallow further payment on her claim to disability benefit following examination by a medical assessor who considered that she was capable of work. She appealed against this decision and was examined by another medical assessor who also considered that she was capable. Her appeal was disallowed by an appeals officer following an oral hearing. The person concerned was notified of this decision on 26 July 1999.

Ceist:

656 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is only in receipt of £42.80 in respect of herself and her child. [18517/99]

The maximum weekly rate of unemployment benefit payable to the person concerned, who had earnings of £3,041 in the governing contribution year, is £64.50. She is currently working two days and claiming benefit for the remaining four days each week. She, therefore, qualifies for the reduced unemployment benefit rate of £42.80 each week.

An application for a one-parent family payment was received from the person concerned on 14 September 1999. Her case is being forwarded to a social welfare inspector for investigation. The inspector will contact the person concerned shortly with a view to arranging an interview.

On completion of all necessary inquiries, an early decision will be made and the person concerned will be notified of the outcome.

Ceist:

657 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive notification of acceptance for a disability allowance. [18516/99]

The person's entitlement to disability allowance depends on the level of his means. His case is with a local investigator who is awaiting details of his income from self-employment. When this information is received a decision on his entitlement will be made immediately and he will be notified of the outcome.
