Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

815 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of Government policy in respect of the proposed relocation of the National College of Ireland to the Docklands area; and if the Government will fund and support the college's relocation. [18495/99]

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

869 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, made regarding the request for funding from the National College of Ireland towards the cost of its proposed new campus in the Dublin docklands; the issues, if any, that remain to be resolved; when a final decision will be made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17800/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 815 and 869 together.

My Department has no objection in principle to relocation of the National College of Ireland to the docklands area. A revised proposal has recently been submitted to my Department by the National College of Ireland in relation to a proposed new campus in the Dublin docklands.

This proposal is currently under active consideration. This process must be completed before a decision regarding the request for funding can be made. Once my Department has identified all of the relevant issues involved, my officials will be in touch with the National College of Ireland.
