Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Qualifications Recognition.

John Perry

Ceist:

955 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties a person (details supplied) in Galway is encountering in registering her honours science degree from Luton University; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that it is her only chance to continue her further studies; if all difficulties will be resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18376/99]

The holders of qualifications, which do not have general recognition, must apply to the Registration Council on an individual basis for recognition of the particular qualifications held for the purpose of securing an incremental teaching position in a secondary school. The qualifi cations held by the person in question do not have general recognition. An application for recognition of her qualifications was submitted on 31 March 1999. Further information was sought from the applicant and this was received on 28 July 1999. Her application is being processed in accordance with the council's normal procedures and it is expected that it will be presented to the Registration Council for consideration at its meeting on 20 October 1999. The applicant will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible thereafter.
