Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

189 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance the number of people paying income tax; and the number earning over £50,000 and £100,000 per annum. [18801/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the total number of taxpayers on the tax records for the income tax year 1999-2000 is estimated at about 1,144,100. The numbers of taxpayers with gross incomes between £50,000 and £100,000 per annum is estimated at 58,000. The number of taxpayers with gross incomes exceeding £100,000 per annum is estimated at 13,000.

Notes(1) The figures are projected estimates and are subject to revision.

(2 ) A married couple who has elected or has been deemed to have elected for joint assessment is counted as one tax unit.
