Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Local Development Funding.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

296 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will review the decision to refuse funding from the local development fund (technical assistance) for the educational programme at an archaeological dig at North King Street, Dublin 7, and the Smithfield space management study requested by Dublin Corporation's HARP project. [19015/99]

The technical assistance sub-programme of the EU operational programme for local urban and rural development 1994-99 (OPLURD) is administered by the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation. This sub-programme provides support for actions intended to ensure the effective implementation and evaluation of the OPLURD programme. The Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation has stated that it has only limited funding remaining under the sub-programme and that it is earmarked to meet the cost of evaluations to be carried out on the performance and impact of the OPLURD programme in the 1994-99 period.

It is open to the corporation to fund the Smithfield space management study from within the overall grant allocation provided by my Department for the implementation of the HARP major initiative.
