The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter the Garda authorities. The have informed me that the policing strength figures for Galway city for 1999, allowing for retirements, resignations and transfers – has resulted in an overall increase in personnel from 146 to 168 members. The exact breakdown of the strength is as follows:
