Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Garda Stations.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

337 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the additional resources, if any, provided to Castlerea Garda station since 1 January 1999 to cater for the increased workload in providing security for Castlerea place of detention; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18960/99]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that no additional resources have been provided to Castlerea Garda station since 1 January 1999. The current personnel strength there remains at 25.

The Garda authorities have also informed me that the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available, the needs of Castlerea will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of other Garda districts throughout the country.
