Tony Killeen

Ceist:

344 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties encountered by providers of residential accommodation for third level students under section 50 of the Finance Act, 1999, arising from section 10 of the relevant guidelines; and the plans, if any, he has to address the problem. Ceist:

375 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to amend section 10 of his Department's guidelines on residential developments for third level students under section 50 of the Finance Act, 1999, pending clarification of Part M of the building regulations referred to. [19026/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 344 and 375 together.

I am aware of the difficulties arising from section 10 of the guidelines on residential developments for third level students, issued by my Department. My colleague, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, is today informing the Deputy of the status of the pro posed amendments to Part M of the Building Regulations, 1997. This will clarify the situation.
