Vol. 508 No. 3

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

76 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the new sewerage scheme in Bantry, County Cork; and when finance will be approved in this regard. [18781/99]

Revised contract documents for the scheme were submitted to my Department in 1996. These will be considered in the context of Cork County Council's review of sludge strategy for the county which is due to be completed shortly and which may have implications for the design of the Bantry scheme. In addition, as the scheme is not included in the 1999 water services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority list will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan 2000-2006.
