Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Community Warden Service.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

119 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the community warden service will be in place; if areas of Dublin Corporation will be considered for the pilot scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22113/99]

It is envisaged that the proposed community warden service will perform a wide range of functions across the spectrum of local authority responsibilities. It is my intention to introduce a community warden service on a pilot basis in a small number of local authorities, possibly two or three, with a mix of urban and rural settings. The pilots will operate for a period of three years commencing in 2000, whereupon they will be evaluated before deciding on wider introduction of the service.

Local authorities were invited to make submissions to host the pilots and these are currently being considered. Dublin Corporation's submission is among those being considered and selections will be made shortly.
