Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

130 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, he is making on providing additional accommodation in Malahide community school in view of the number of students being refused entry places for September 2000 due to the fact the school cannot cater for all the children coming out of local national schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22133/99]

My Department has received an application for an extension at Malahide community school. The projected enrolments for this school have been examined and a schedule of overall accommodation was recently issued to the board of management for its agreement.

When the schedule has been agreed, the process of architecturally planning of the project shall commence.

The building unit of my Department recently offered temporary accommodation to the school as a short-term measure to assist with expected increased enrolments in September 2000-01. The board of management will discuss this proposal at its next meeting.
