Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

39 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the degree to which training facilities are available under the aegis of FÁS; if sufficient funds are available to meet current and projected requirements, with particular reference to community employment schemes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22004/99]

A comprehensive range of training facilities is provided under the aegis of FÁS at its numerous locations nationwide. In 1999 the total budget provision for training for the unemployed under FÁS amounted to £53.9 million. The allocation for community employment was £308 million, which includes an amount of £7.5 million for the training component within the programme.

Overall, I am broadly satisfied with the level of resources being made available under these programmes, in the context of current labour market conditions, but of course the position is kept under review.
