Vol. 510 No. 2

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Ceist:

94 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the plans, if any, he has to issue guidelines to citizens in relation to visiting or travelling to or over certain foreign countries in the context of difficulties which may arise in computer systems because of the millennium bug; if she will give details of these countries, if any; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22038/99]

In the next week or so the Department of Foreign Affairs will issue advice for Irish people planning to be travelling abroad at the beginning of next year. This advice will be based on the information available to the Department and Irish embassies. Reference will also be made to other sources of more detailed information.

As it is not possible accurately to predict exactly what effects the millennium bug may have in any country, it would not be appropriate to describe any particular country as being either free of the bug or especially susceptible to it.
