184 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of rate support grant, national road grants, regional county and other road grants and other grants under the appropriate headings paid to Westmeath County Council in each of the past five years and to date in 1999. [23089/99]

(c) Payments in 1997 and 1998 were net of amounts retained by the local authority in the first instance in respect of motor tax receipts on private vehicles, under administrative arrangements applying to the Local Government Equalisation Fund. When these are factored in, the comparative allocations for these years were: 1997 – £5,694,102 and 1998 (Provisional) – £6,070,104.
(d) Responsibility for National Roads was transferred to the National Roads Authority with effect from 1 January 1994.
