Vol. 510 No. 5

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Brendan Daly

Ceist:

96 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will ensure that the minimum requirements of Council Directive 96/67/EC on ground handling services will be met by all suppliers of theses services, particularly in relation to third party handlers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22994/99]

The ground-handling directive requires that the airport authority allows a minimum of at least two third party ground-handling service providers for each of the ground-handling services listed in the annex to the directive.

This provision of the directive currently applies to all airports with more than three million passengers. In Ireland therefore, the directive applies only at Dublin Airport.

Regulations to implement the ground-handling directive were signed by me on 16 December 1998.
