Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Meat Imports.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

165 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the list of companies importing beef, sheep, pig and poultry meat; and the quantities in each case. [24395/99]

In accordance with section 5(1) of the European Communities (Trade in Animals and Animal Products) Regulations, 1994, a register is maintained in my Department of persons approved as dealers in imported animals or imported products to which Council Directive 90/425 applies and persons who may accept delivery as consignees of imported agricultural products.

It is not the practice to release the names and addresses of those on the register, nor of the quantity of product imported by them. General statistical data on quantities of products imported is available from the Central Statistics Office.
