Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rural Renewal Projects.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

172 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if provision has been made in the 2000 Estimates to enable the Cranny, County Clare, rural renewal project to further its studies in vital social projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24513/99]

There is no provision in the 2000 Estimates of my Department for funding the Cranny project.

Notwithstanding the termination in December 1998 of funding for the various projects in the pilot programme for the delivery of integrated public services, I decided as an exceptional measure that additional funding would be provided for a further year to assist the Cranny project to achieve the goal of becoming self sufficient in the short to medium term. The project steering committee was fully aware of this decision and formally accepted that there was no commitment to funding of expenditure beyond 1999.
