Vol. 511 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Jim Higgins. I call on Deputy Jim Higgins to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

(Mayo): I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the decision by gardaí not to operate the new PULSE information technology system for compiling information on crime suspects, the decision by Garda authorities to switch off existing computer systems, the necessity to recall all information henceforth in written form and the failure of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform and his Department to intervene at an earlier stage to head off the current crisis.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
