Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

178 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the position in relation to the provision of the proposed new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if work will commence on the project in the near future; if he has been in contact with other agencies involved in the development of the site with a view to bringing matters in relation to developments to a rapid and satisfactory conclusion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24505/99]

Ceist:

179 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, in respect of the ongoing discussions regarding the proposed new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; the consideration, if any, given to the precise deadline of the commencement of the building work; if an early start can be achieved; if not, the alternative plan, if any, he has in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24506/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 178 and 179 together.

There have been no further developments since my reply to the Deputy's question on 11 November 1999. The Commissioners of Public Works are in continuous contact with Kildare County Council to try to progress the matter. The commissioners will commence detailed planning immediately once the precise site is identified. The exact timing of the project depends on the local authority.

In the meantime, the Garda will continue to occupy the existing temporary station.
