Vol. 511 No. 3

Ceisteanna – Questions. - Oral Answers.

Mr. J. Bruton: On a point of order, with the indulgence of the Chair, if the Taoiseach proposes to take Questions Nos. 1 to 20 together, would he agree to postpone Questions Nos. 2, 3, 7, 8, 10 and 11 to another day given that they concern matters of an economic nature that were discussed during his visit to New York which might be better dealt with separately from the important issues concerning Northern Ireland? I understand Deputy Quinn would agree to his question being postponed. I have not had an opportunity to ask Deputies Joe Higgins or Ó Caoláin if they would agree, but if they do I hope the Taoiseach will agree to the questions concerning his trip to New York being taken tomorrow rather than dealt with in conjunction with the questions of great national importance concerning Northern Ireland he has to deal with today.

The Chair would appreciate prior notice, if Deputies have such proposals. Prior notice in this instance would have been helpful.

I apologise for being late in bringing forward this request.

It is not a matter for the Chair at this stage.

In response to Deputy Bruton's proposal, I indicate my agreement with the proposal if that is of help in reaching a decision as to how to proceed.

I will ask the Taoiseach to comment on this.

Yes, that is okay. I will omit the first part of my reply, although it will probably be included in the Official Report.

It is proposed that Questions Nos. 2, 3, 7, 8, 10 and 11 and will be postponed by agreement. Is that agreed? Agreed.
